Templestowe District Medical Centre (Templestowe Doctor)

I decided to search for my local doctor using the internet and to my surprise I found the practice didn’t have a web site.

My doctor is at Templestowe District Medical Centre is located at 40 Anderson Street, Templestowe, near the Templestowe Village shops. The contact number is 9846 4000.

One of the problems when businesses don’t have a web presence is you end up getting their details in a whole range of online directories. Many of these directories seem to have picked up the contact details from some list and you can never be quite certain if the details are up to date. I’ve found by having a web presence the business is often listed first so the business gets to represent itself in the way it wants, rather than some directory which has been set up primarily to generate income from Google advertising.

All it takes is a single web page with summary information including contact details and the internet is a great way for customers to find the business they use.

For example how many times have you gone to fill out a form which asks for the doctor’s name and you can’t remember and have to list the practice name. I know I certainly have. If I had to list my doctor’s last name I honestly wouldn’t know. That’s where a simple web page with a list of the doctors would help.

Templestowe local search now extended to included surrounding postcode areas

The JustLocal search for Templestowe (postcode 3106) has now been modified to include not only the businesses in Templestowe, but also the businesses we’ve identified with web sites in Lower Plenty, Montmorency, Eltham, Templestowe Lower, Doncaster, Doncaster East and Warrandyte. All these areas are adjacent to Templestowe based on the postcode.

The aim of JustLocal is to encourage people to shop in their own area first and then the surrounding area. Previously to find businesses in the surrounding area a person in Templestowe would need visit and search seven postcode areas which I don’t think anyone would be bothered doing. By amalgamating all the businesses I’ve identified residents and businesses of Templestowe can now search the sites of close to a thousand businesses. I don’t believe there is anything else like this available.

You can use the Templestowe search engine by going to www.JustLocal.com.au/3106 and selecting search in the menu at the top.

Alert: Apple iPhone, iPad, Touch PDF exploit

I just read the following article about how Apple is rushing to patch and exploit which malware writers can use and deliver via a PDF, either via a site or email, and moments later received a suspicious email, which was an obvious fake using Google as the sender.

http://m.theage.com.au/technology/security/hackers-expose-flaw-in-apple-ipad-iphone-software-20110707-1h3e1.html

That was a gentle prod and I felt I should let my customers know about the exploit.

If you're using an iOS device, until Apple has patched their software and you have installed the update, you should take extreme care opening PDFs from people or sites you don't know.

Because it requires quite an effort to update iOS devices, I've seen quite a few devices which aren't being updated. The effort is the updates don't go direct to the device but via a computer. Devices such as the Touch or even and iPhone can go for months without being connected to a computer and updated.

I've found in the past with the iTunes gift voucher malware, a large percentage and a very large number of Apple users (significantly greater than the market share for the devices) took action as a result of the email malware.

Because Apple products feel more like a device than a computer a false sense of security can be created.

Take extreme care with PDFs if you are using an iOS device from Apple. that is an iPad, iPhone or Touch device.
